Check out our “Get Started List for Lent” (below).
Lent begins a season of 40 days prior to Easter Sunday. It is intended to be a time of reflection and preparation to celebrate Easter, much in the same way that Advent is preparation for celebrating Christmas. It’s a time to remember Jesus’ life, His last days on earth, His death, burial, and resurrection, and how much our salvation cost God the Father. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son” to live and die for us.
So how should you observe Lent?
Historically, many Christians give something up during the 40 days of Lent. They make a sacrifice of something they desire as a way to remember the sacrifice Jesus made. But perhaps this year, rather than giving something up, you might want to take something up. How about making Lent a time of commitment, or deeper commitment, to the One who has saved your soul, made you a new creation, and given you eternal life with Him. This involves your eyes, your mind, and your heart:
- Eyes: Get focused, or stay focused. Keep looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith.
- Mind: Think on Jesus. Let your actions be directed by His words and His ways, as revealed in Scripture.
- Heart: Surrender your desires to the will of God and live by the power of the Holy Spirit who will teach, direct, and guide you.
Commit to taking up these three things:
- Pray: Find your peace and rest in Jesus.
- Read and study the Bible: Renew your mind, increase in knowledge and grow in wisdom.
- Attend church: Fellowship with other Christians will strengthen you in good times and uphold you in difficult times.
Be consistent! Don’t just commit to these things during the 40 days of Lent. Make them a permanent part of your life. You will be blessed.

Do You Know Jesus?
The Bible clearly states that everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). It also emphasizes that while the wages of sin is death, God offers us the incredible gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, know that today is the day of salvation (Acts 28). Turn away from your sinful past and turn to Jesus. Remember, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved” (Romans 10:13). Don’t wait—find hope and redemption!
