Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

All too often we rush through life without stopping to remember and reflect on the really important things. The day Jesus was crucified is sometimes thought of as a dark and sad day, and it was such a day for those who witnessed it. But we can also think of it as a day of great celebration. It should be a day of remembering and celebrating Christ’s victory over death and the new life that we have been given…because He lives (Watch the video: Because He Lives).

Jesus proclaimed this victory to His disciples in John 14:19,

“A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.”

Before the celebrations begin on Resurrection Sunday, take time to remember that it was on the cross that Jesus paid for our sins and conquered death. On the dark day of the crucifixion, Jesus became the substitutionary atonement for the sins of all mankind.

Borrowing words from the song, “Man of Sorrow,” let us pause and remember…“In my place condemned He stood and sealed my pardon with His blood.”

Jesus took our sins upon Himself and paid the penalty for them with His blood. Leviticus 17:11 tells that “the life of the flesh is in the blood.” In Jesus’ incarnation, his life was in the blood, but, unlike our blood, His blood was perfect and sinless. Jesus “laid down His life for us” (1 John 3:16), as the perfect Lamb of God, and He poured out His blood (Matthew 26:28), the only pure blood that could pay for our sins.

Remember Jesus and His Finished Work on the Cross

Stand before the cross and consider the great cost of your sin.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

Remember the great sacrifice of God:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Give thanks, honor, and glory to the One who bought us with His blood:

Acts 20:28 …the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
