December is a month of waiting, but it is not empty waiting. The Psalms of Advent: A Month of Longing, Promise, and Praise invites readers to step out of the season’s hurry and into a sacred pause, with one psalm for each day from December 1 through December 31.
The Psalms give voice to every condition of the human heart: joy and grief, confidence and confusion, worship and weeping. They also reveal the Messiah. In these thirty-one readings, readers meet the Lord’s Anointed, the King of glory, the Son of David, the Priest-King according to the order of Melchizedek, and the rejected stone who became the chief cornerstone. Read through the lens of Advent, the psalms become songs of expectation that look back to Bethlehem and forward to the day Christ returns to reign.
The readings are arranged in four parts. Longing for the Lord teaches the heart to wait with hope. The Coming King presents the promised King and God’s covenant with David. Salvation Revealed celebrates the Savior who came as the Light of the world. Praise and Fulfillment carries readers through the last days of the year with thanksgiving and confident expectation.
Each day includes a psalm to read, a featured verse, a short Christ-centered devotion, a prayer, and an illustrated memory verse to help readers carry God’s Word through the day. Although Advent ends on Christmas Eve, the readings continue through December 31, because the longing, promise, and praise of the season do not end at the manger. They carry believers into the new year, still looking for His return.
