The Holy Bible . . . written words that are God’s means of communicating to us. Holy Scripture, so essential to the life of the one professing Christ as their Lord and Savior. The Bible, the very breath of God, a mighty sword, able to do mighty things . . .

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 – NKJV)

So very often in past days I would hear it coming from the children’s Sunday School class,

“The B – I – B – L – E, yes that’s the book for me;
I stand alone on the Word of God,
The B – I – B – L – E!”

And I would sing it in my heart, repeat it’s easy lyrics over and over in my mind. I don’t have much to do with children’s Sunday School classes anymore but I would pray they are still singing this great old song, I would pray we in the church are still teaching them that the Bible is the book for them and that they can stand on it alone.

The Word of God! It is “living and powerful.” It is said, “God’s Word changes people . . . their thinking . . . their decisions . . . their behavior!” It does that! It is “living” and it is “powerful!”

Dr. Joseph Stowell, in his book The Dawn’s Early Light, has so very much to say about this “word of God,”

“Accepting this book as the agent of change in our lives demands that we value its worth and without compromise submit to its work. In this light, regularly reading and learning His Word becomes a strategic part of the process of permeating our world with the light of righteousness.”

This believer, this writer, accepts this book, accepts it for what it is,

“The Word of God . . . an essential tool for the Christian. The Bible presents itself as the final measurement for all data — that is truth — concerning every area of life. We are assured in Second Timothy 3:16-17 that every word has been breathed out by God . . . God’s Word guarantees facts about relationships, Christ, eternity, history, people, money, the world around us, and the universe beyond us.”

It is INFALLIBLE, “neither misleading or being misled . . . so . . . safeguards that the Scriptures are a sure, safe, reliable rule and guide in all matters.”

It is INERRANT, “Free from falsehood or mistake . . . so . . . safeguards the truth that the Scriptures are entirely true and trustworthy in all its assertions.”

Stowell has written,

“. . . the Bible is not a book with which we negotiate. It is sovereign!”

Dr. John MacArthur writes,

“Biblical Christianity has always been based on the conviction that the Scriptures, rightly interpreted, are the ultimate and only standard for all spiritual truth. The only source for sound doctrine is the Bible.”

It is the Word of Truth! It is “living” and it is “powerful” and it is “sharper than any two-edged sword” and it is able to “pierce” deep within a man, to his very “soul and spirit,” and it is able to “discern . . . the thoughts and the intents of” a man’s “heart.”

“The B – I – B – L -E, yes that’s the book for me;
I stand alone on the Word of God,
The B – I – B – L – E!”

Brethren , that’s where I stand!

Have a good day . . . and let me encourage you to saturate your mind with the Word of God. Let it transform your thinking and your walk, that you might prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2). It is able to do just that!
