Kids Say the Darndest Things!

So what do kids think and say about love and marriage?  Watch now, then read what the Bible says.

Some will remember the 1984 song What’s Love Got To Do With It? recorded by Tina Turner.  The song was a huge success and garnered a Grammy Hall of Fame Award for Turner in 2012.

While the song asks a most important question, it does a very poor job answering it.  The lyrics refer to love as a “second-hand emotion,” and ask “who needs a heart when a heart can be broken.” Well, how important is love, and what does “love have to do with it?”

Although the song doesn’t answer those questions, we can find answers in the Bible.

A Kingdom of Love

Jesus’ kingdom, right now, is not a literal, physical kingdom. It is a spiritual kingdom.  It is the kingdom of which every born again believer is a subject and it is the kingdom of our Great God and King, Jesus.

It is not a kingdom on earth.  It is a kingdom in our hearts.  And love has everything to do with it.

Jesus Said…

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”

Mat 22:37-39  … “’You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

John 13:34-35  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 17:26  “And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

Paul Wrote…

Rom 5:5  Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Rom 5:8  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 8:38-39  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Eph 5:2  And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

Col 1:13  He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,

James Wrote…

James 2:8  If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”…

And, Paul Confirms…

Rom 13:8-10   Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.  For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Gal 5:14  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

What’s Love Got To Do With It?  Everything!

Find peace and joy in the unending, unfailing, extravagant love of Jesus.  He loved us so much that He laid down His life to redeem us from our sins.  He died and conquered death and, in Him, we are made alive to live eternally with Him.

This IS Amazing Grace

On this Valentine’s Day, pause to praise God for loving us.  Sing of all that He has done for you. And, as you express your love to those who are near and dear, remember that we love, because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

The Symbol of Valentine’s Day

The red heart is the traditional symbol for Valentine’s Day.  However, a better symbol to represent love is the cross of Christ.   Hearts will stop beating, but Jesus will never stop loving. It is because of the cross that we are able to love.  God is love and, because man was created in His image, we have the ability to love. Jesus generates the love in our hearts and there is no greater example of love Jesus.  On a wooden cross, almost two millennia ago, Jesus showed the world the love of God for His creation.  A heart might be the symbol of Valentine’s Day love, but the cross is the symbol of perfect love.  And, there’s a reason why a heart is red.  It was by the red blood of Jesus, flowing from His heart of love, that man’s sins were paid for, so man’s soul could be redeemed.

This year on Valentine’s Day remember that love has everything to do with life.  It is the love of God, freely given for us and to us that is the basis of all faith and all hope.  What does love have to do with it?  Everything!

1 Cor 13:1-3, 8, 13  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing….Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.  And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
