We have been following God’s divine plan of redemption throughout the Bible.  In this article, we will consider the Wrath and Book of the Lamb.  If you missed any of the previous articles, you can read them here:

The Wrath of the Lamb

Rev. 6:1, 15-17… “Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, ‘Come and see.’”…“And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!  For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?’”

Until now, we have seen Jesus in His loving roles as a sacrifice, substitute, Savior, and Shepherd.

In Revelation 5…

The risen and ascended Christ is seen in Heaven in a more glorious dimension.  He is seen at the right hand of the throne of God as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, and as a Lamb that had been Slain, and He is continually praised and worshiped by the multitudes of saints and angels in His presence.

In Revelation 6…

Jesus the Lamb of God is seen as a sovereign, awesome, fearsome Ruler in full-blown righteous indignation at the world He created that has rejected and blasphemed Him for thousands of years.  Now we see Him unleashing the seal judgments, which are frightful and devasting events that reveal the wrath of the Lamb!  Yes, it is true:

John 3:16  “God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Romans 5:8  “God demonstrated His love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

It is true, God is the God of love, grace, tender compassion, and mercy.  But  God is also a God of justice, judgment, and wrath.  Though God has been very longsuffering and patient with a rebellious and unbelieving world, the time is coming when His patience will run out. Then the world will see the wrath of the Lamb.

Judgment Poured Out

As the seal judgments are poured out upon the earth, the Bible says that the kings of the earth, the commanders, the mighty and the rich, and the slave and the free will all scramble to hide in caves and dens. They will even cry out for the rocks and the mountains to fall on them, saying…

Rev 6:16-17  “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!  For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

We all need to understand that God is very capable of righteous anger.

Psalm 7:11 “God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day.”

Psalm 9:17  “The wicked shall be turned into Hell, and all the nations that forget God.”

Nahum 1:2  “The Lord avenges and is furious, the Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies.”

Hebrews 10:31 “…It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God”.

Tragically, one of the predominant features of wicked men in the last days is that “there is no fear of God before their eyes” (Rom. 3:18).

Psalm 2:10-12 says… “Now therefore, be wise…serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in the way when His wrath is kindled but a little.  Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”

There is a sure way to escape the wrath of the Lamb…humbly repent, surrender in childlike faith in Jesus, the Lamb of God.

The Book of the Lamb

Rev 13:8, 11-12   All who dwell on the earth will worship him [the Beast, the Anti-Christ], whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Rev 20:11-12 Then I saw a great white throne and He who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away, and there was found no place for them.  And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books

Rev 22: 9  and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.  {27] But there shall by no means enter it [the New Jerusalem] anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

The Book of Life and the Lamb’s Book of Life

Several books are mentioned, but the two, in particular, are the Book of Life and the Lamb’s Book of Life.  I believe these are two separate books.  The Book of Life contains the names of all souls who have ever been conceived in the womb, therefore it is the complete list of all physical life on this earth.  The Lamb’s Book of Life is the list of names of all saved souls; all who have eternal life.  Everyone’s name is in the Book of Life, but the names of unbelievers have been removed from the Lamb’s Book of Life (Read more: What is the Book of Life?).

Sadly, all whose names are not found in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be cast into the Lake of Fire at the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev. 20:11-15).  That will be unquestionably the saddest, most tragic day in all of eternity.

Warning and Challenge

Make sure that you are saved, and that your name is plainly recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life!  Nothing is more important!  Visit our Salvation Page for a clear gospel presentation.

Mk 8:36  “For what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?”

If your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, help others to come to Jesus in faith so their names may be also.   Help others to see their need for a Saviour, their need for forgiveness, and the joy that can be theirs when they put their trust in Jesus.

Luke 10:20  …rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Let’s share the love and saving grace of Jesus with all people, so that more names may be written into the Lamb’s Book of Life.  How to Be Saved and Born Again?
