Please help us share God's truths and hope in Christ.

Yes, a Mormon came to my door. It was two young ladies who identified themselves as, “missionaries of the Church of Latter Day Saints.” That said, I thought of John’s writings in his three letters. In his first letter  he told his readers,

  • “These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you” (I John 2:26 – NKJV)

And that is my reason for writing this to my brothers and sisters in Christ. I write “concerning those” who go out and canvas the population to attempt to share with them their false gospel, false Jesus, and false literature. They are those who have been “deceived” and they seek “to deceive you.”

Two young ladies . . . with their name tags and all, well-dressed and seeming to be very cordial, asking me if they could come in and share their beliefs. (Sometimes the devil attempts to deliver his lies in nice looking packages.)

I was a bit caught off guard, certainly not expecting anybody at my front door, so after they introduced themselves I said, “Oh, wow! Mormons” (which they were). I then said, “You guys are a cult, you know that right?” (which is true.) Well, this obviously put them back on their heels and I proceeded to tell them that I had looked into their beliefs and found them wanting (which is true). I also told them that they had another Jesus; one that they profess to be the brother of Lucifer (which is true). I went on to say that they did not regard the Bible has God’s sole authority for believers (which is true), and that I found the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith, their prophet, to be lacking in truth (which is true).

Getting their bearings a bit, one of the young ladies, when I told her the Bible was the believer’s sole authority, said, “Well, we read the Bible too.” Keyword here: “too.” For I said to her, “But, you hold other books on the same level or of a higher authority as the Bible” (which is true). She did not deny it. (Those books: The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, and The Doctrine of Covenants)

With that, I bid them a not-so-hearty goodbye. But before they left one of the young ladies offered me a copy of the Book of Mormon. I replied, “I have my book already . . . it’s called the Bible! And that’s all I need” (which also is true).

They come a knocking and they are false teachers, these Mormons. They seek to spread their lies and they are very good at doing so.

I probably didn’t handle this situation like maybe you would. You and I could debate that. And then again, maybe I did. But this know for sure,

  • “. . . many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward” (II John 7-8 – NKJV)

We live in a “world” that is filled with lies and those agents who propagate those lies. They, as John writes, are “deceivers and . . . antichrists.” John implores us to “look to ourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for,” and a most important one of “those things” is the truth. You and I are called to walk in the truth (II John 4; III John 3-4) and hold fast to it! We are to fight for it! We are to be set apart by it. A false way is not something we should ever take lightly . . . it should get our dander up! (Psalm 119:104)

Mormons, no matter how innocent looking the carrier of the message might be, are those John writes,

  • “. . . do not abide in the doctrine of Christ” (II John 9 – NKJV)

And John says with authority,

  • “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, (“the doctrine of Christ”) do not receive him into your house nor greet him” (II John 10 – NKJV)

Be on your guard (cf. II Timothy 1:13-14), in case the Mormons come to your door. A Mormon came to my door!

  • “These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you”
