Hope for Today: A Daily Devotion from Reasons for Hope*Jesus
“Watch and pray…. Let us be going.” Matthew 26:41, 46
“Remember Lot’s wife.” Luke 17:32
“This is the way, walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
To be kept from self-righteousness on one hand and from false liberty on the other is to be led in the right Christian way. But how shall I find this way?
Blessed Jesus! You are the Way. Teach me, then, to:
- walk in Your strength
- live in Your faith
- gaze much upon You
- cleave firmly unto You, and
- abide ever in You
So shall I experience the liberty of Your gospel, which yields no license for sin but brings joyful deliverance from its power. For when my heart rests on You, it cannot rest in the flesh and seek to fulfill its lusts. But, being delighted with Your beauty and glorious love, it ceases to wander from You, and I become watchful, fervent, and animated.
Rise, my soul, rise, and let us be going. This world is no home for you. Rise from the earth, from self, and from sin. Rise to high and holy objects and subjects. Linger not, like Lot. Look not back, as did Lot’s wife. But press forward; urge on your way. There is much land to be possessed, many blessings to be obtained, and great honors to be won. Onward, onward, then, until you shall hear the Master’s voice saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.”
