In Matthew 5, we have the most beautiful explanation of the attitudes we are to be in life.  Take a minute and refresh your memory of the Beatitudes that Jesus gave us.

Sadly, the world has a very different attitude list.  Compare and contrast the Beatitudes of Jesus and the Beatitudes of the World. Then follow the beatitudes of Jesus!

The Beatitudes of Jesus

  1. Mat 5:3  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  2. Mat 5:4  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
  3. Mat 5:5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
  4. Mat 5:6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
  5. Mat 5:7  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
  6. Mat 5:8  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
  7. Mat 5:9  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
  8. Mat 5:10  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven…(Mat 5:12)

Oh, what beautiful promises the Beatitudes are.  They speak of blessings from God given to those who are lowly, needy, hungry, wounded, loving, and kind. The Beatitudes are not a “to-do” list to get God’s blessings.  The Beatitudes are a “to-be” list. They describe those who know their need for God and desire to live according to His will and ways — because those who live in that way, are blessed.

The world, however, sees life differently.  It’s not about receiving blessings from God.  It’s about winning, being victorious, and rising above others.  The world defines its beatitudes very differently:

The Beatitudes of the World

  1. Victorious are the rich, for they build their own kingdom
  2. Victorious are the happy, for they avoid all sadness
  3. Victorious are the proud, for they deserve what they earn
  4. Victorious are the greedy, for they keep what they have
  5. Victorious are the merciless, for they enforce their justice
  6. Victorious are the selfish, for they please themselves
  7. Victorious are the aggressors, for they take what they want.
  8. Victorious are the self-righteous, for only their opinion matters.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in this life…

It’s Up to You. . .

“…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve..
.as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Josh 24:15

Do You Know Jesus?

The Bible clearly states that everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). It also emphasizes that while the wages of sin is death, God offers us the incredible gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).

If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, know that today is the day of salvation (Acts 28). Turn away from your sinful past and turn to Jesus. Remember, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved” (Romans 10:13). Don’t wait—find hope and redemption!
