Don’t you just love the wisdom of others? Some of the pithy sayings or the obvious truths spoken by friends, family and even people we’ve never met can cause us to stop and ponder.
It’s Important to Ponder
“Ponder” is a word that is seldom used in our day, and it’s a practice that is often neglected. To “ponder” is to think about something carefully, deeply, and thoroughly. It is to meditate on something, often for the purpose of making a decision and always for the reason of gaining better understanding.
Mary Pondered
Perhaps the best-known ponderer was Mary, the mother of Jesus. All that God had revealed to her, Mary pondered in her heart (Luke 2:19). Note that this was not just a mental activity of thinking on these things. It was also a heart action of embracing them. Do we take the time to truly ponder truths and wisdom? In our fast-paced world, do snippets of wisdom sink deep into our minds and hearts to motivate our actions?
Ponder This…
Romans 12 reminds us that we have a “great cloud of witnesses,” who have gone before us and their words live on to testify of God’s truth (Hebrews 12:1). That verse is speaking of the Old Testament saints and follows the great “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11 that recalls works of Old Testament saints, done by great faith in God. There are also many “witnesses” to the truth in our day. Throughout the ages, words of wisdom have been preserved for us to ponder.

Do You Know Jesus?
The Bible clearly states that everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). It also emphasizes that while the wages of sin is death, God offers us the incredible gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, know that today is the day of salvation (Acts 28). Turn away from your sinful past and turn to Jesus. Remember, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved” (Romans 10:13). Don’t wait—find hope and redemption!
