“The sword of the LORD and of Gideon!” Judges 7:20
“They are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them.” Numbers 14:9
“But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went.” Numbers 14:24
Take care, O my soul, that there may also be another spirit with you, as there was with Joshua and Caleb — not to be discouraged on account of your weakness and the great number of your enemies, as if it were impossible to live holily and get the victory. Christ, a Leader infinitely superior to Joshua or Caleb, marches out before you, to make war Himself against your enemies; and who can conquer Him? He is unchangeable. His Spirit is as mighty now as ever, and His word as powerful. His strength shall be made perfect in your weakness; and with the sharp two-edged sword which He will teach you to wield, you shall destroy or put to flight all your adversaries. Afflictions and temptations may harass you from day to day — but your triumph shall soon be complete. You shall quit this sinful and perplexing world. Then shall you receive a crown from the Captain of salvation. And all that, like you, have conquered through His aid, shall unite their voices with yours, eternally in His praise. “Not unto us, Lord, not unto us — but to Your name be glory, for Your mercy and Your truth’s sake.”
