October 10 – Faith Must Be Fed

“Whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance.” Matthew 13:12

“The water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14

Of the remarkable increase of the Kingdom of God, even from the least beginning (Matthew 13:31-33) and unto the fulfillment of the beautiful vision (Ezekiel 47:1-12), it is necessary to draw living water out of it daily by fervent prayer, and then it will spring up freely. But, reader, if you begin to be slothful and distracted with worldly cares, not abiding closely with Christ nor calling diligently on Him, your spirit will soon be dried up, and you will scarcely be able with anxious groans to draw a single drop from this well. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and if you desire your own comfort and God’s glory, keep near the well’s mouth and drink thereof abundantly.

Remember, there must be daily supplies for the soul, as well as daily bread for the body. Faith will not grow except it be fed. The plants of grace will not thrive unless they are watered. The fullness of Jesus is always open to you; the invitation is daily addressed to you, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” Are you thirsty? Go to Jesus. Do you fear to go? He says, “Whoever will, let him come and take freely.”

The Lord my Shepherd is,
I shall be well supplied;
He is mine and I am His,
What can I want beside?
