“Get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit.” Ezekiel 18:31 [See also 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.]

Many who would be thought to have made considerable advances in religion remain to this hour destitute of deep and self-abasing convictions. Hence they never effectually repaired to Christ for reconciliation and righteousness. They do not feel the necessity of a new heart — but content themselves with the observance of religious rites, and with a morality that elevates them but a little above the prevailing manner of the world.

O Lord, let me daily receive a word from You, to nourish and strengthen my soul, so as to be renewed daily by it more and more. Renew a right spirit within me. Make me conformable to Your will, and wholly Yours. You said to Israel, “Get yourselves a new heart,” and a new heart I need. ut conscious of my inability to produce one, I lay myself at Your feet and pray, “Fulfill in me all the good pleasure of Your goodness and the work of faith with power.” O take my heart and make it new! Put Your own sweet Spirit within me and make me holy, as You are holy. “Give what You require, and then require what You will.”
