THIS IS A MUST-SEE VIDEO FOR ALL CHISTIANS!
John Claypool’s preaching often focused on life being a gift freely given by God at birth and not something to be earned or perceived as a possession.
“… if we are willing, the experience of grief can deepen and widen our ability to participate in life. We can become more grateful for the gifts we have been given, more open-handed in our handling of the events of life, more sensitive to the whole mysterious process of life, and more trusting in our adventure with God.”– Tracks of a Fellow Struggler
“With God, the worst thing is never the last thing.”
Watch this message of hope, in which Claypool uses an illustration from another great preacher of his time, Frederick Buechner (1926-2022). Buechner also leaves a legacy of words of hope to overcome despair (Read 40 Quotes from Frederick Buechner). One of the great lessons Buechner taught was the amazing way that God can bring good from the worst of circumstances.
About John Claypool
John Rowan Claypool IV (1930-2005) was ordained in 1953. He served as a pastor in five southern Baptist churches in Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, and Mississippi. In 1970, he suffered the greatest loss ever. His 10-year-old daughter died after an 18-month battle with leukemia. The grief of such a loss tore his wife and him apart, and they divorced in 1981. In 1986, Claypool was ordained an Episcopal priest and continued serving God until he died in 2005.
Claypool wrote many books and published his best-known book, Tracks of a Fellow Struggler: Living and Growing through Grief, in 2003. The book shares four sermons Claypool preached while dealing with the devasting diagnosis, long hospitalizations, and eventual death of his daughter. The book is an excellent resource for anyone dealing with grief and loss.
