by Pastor Wayne Edwards, Heritage Baptist Church
“And she will bring forth a son, and you shall call His name JESUS for He will shall save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
- The fact that a baby boy was born in Bethlehem more than 2000 years ago is confirmed by both secular and biblical history.
- The fact that His birth is celebrated around the world annually tells us there was something different about Him.
- And the truth is, out of 333 specific Old Testament prophecies, defining the characteristics of the Messiah, the Savior sent from God, Jesus fulfilled the overwhelming majority of them at His first coming. And He will fulfill the rest of them when He returns.
The Bible says…
“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
If we accept the Bible as the divinely inspired Word of God, we must believe Jesus was who He said He was, and that He did what He said He did, for the reason He said He did it, and for ALL who would believe in Him.
The facts are irrefutable…
it happened just as the Bible says it did. The God-promised Savior was born 2000 years ago in Bethlehem, the City of David. Luke 2:11
However, to understand the truth of the manger we view it through the lens of the cross. Jesus didn’t come to give us another holiday. Jesus was born to die!
The Bible says…
“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
The baby wrapped in rags lying in a manger became our Savior who died on the cross for our sins. (1 Peter 2:24, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
He did this for US, according to the sovereign will of God the Father, so those who believe in Him, and receive Him as their Savior and Lord, will not perish but have everlasting life.
“Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…” (2 Pet 3:18). It will make Christmas last forever!

Do You Know Jesus?
The Bible clearly states that everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). It also emphasizes that while the wages of sin is death, God offers us the incredible gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, know that today is the day of salvation (Acts 28). Turn away from your sinful past and turn to Jesus. Remember, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved” (Romans 10:13). Don’t wait—find hope and redemption!
