September 16 – The Riches of Free and Sovereign Grace

“To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” Acts 10:43

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10

In this name we should draw near to the Father in prayer — and not approach Him with a strange fire of our own, kindled from the fancied merit of devotion — and He will draw near to us again (James 4:8). He will certainly grant our petitions, and we shall receive, that our joy may be full (John 16: 24).

“You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You” (Psalm 86:5).
“For all the promises of God in Him are yea and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Cor 1:20); so that every believer may say,
“The Lord will receive my prayer” (Psalm 6:9).
“Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer nor His mercy from me” (Psalm 66:20), for
“He has dealt bountifully with me” (Psalm 13:6).

Yes, for in Jesus He has blessed me with all spiritual blessings, adopted me for His own child, constituted me His heir, and appointed me to fill a throne of glory. O the riches of grace, of free and sovereign grace! I ascribe it to grace and grace alone, that I am out of hell, on the road to heaven, and expecting glory, honor, and immortality. From grace flows all the good, and to grace be all the glory.
