The Bible offers several “roads” to salvation. Each provides a “road map” of verses about man’s lost condition and how to make it “home.”
The Romans Road is likely the most well-traveled of all the salvation roads. It’s been used for years as a simple way to witness and is a long-time popular gospel tract message.
The apostle Paul wrote the Book of Romans as a letter to the Christians in the church in Rome. His purpose was to instruct them in true doctrine (Rom 1-11) and practical direction (Rom 12-16), to encourage them in their faith, and to equip them to share the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Paul began his letter with the diagnosis of man that leads to death, and he explained the desperation of man in finding a way to be delivered. Man is unable to deliver (save) himself, but God can!!!
The Romans Road to Salvation
There are many variations of this “road,” but all preach the way to the Father through the Son. Some are very short and simple. Others include more verses and give more details along the “road.”
This is my personal version of the Romans Road to Salvation, defining the road with diagnosis, desperation, decision, and deliverance.
1. The Diagnosis of Man
- Romans 3:10 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
- Romans 3:23 “There is no one righteous, not even one.”
- Romans 6:23a: “For the wages of sin is death…”
2. The Desperation of Man
- Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
3. The Decision of Man
- Romans 10:9-10: “if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”
- Romans 10:13: “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
4. The Deliverance of Man
-
- Romans 5:8: “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- Romans 6:23b: “…the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
5. The Divine Grace of God
- Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Use the Romans Road to turn them to the Saviour and help them to pray something like this:
Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and not worthy of Your forgiveness. But the Bible tells me that You died to forgive all my sins, and You promise to save me if I confess my sins and trust in You. I believe You died for me and that You rose from the dead. I want to know you. I ask You to forgive my sins, give me eternal life, and help me live in a way that honors You. In Your name, I pray. Amen
