“Without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

“Abide in Me.” John 15:4

I can no more do without You, O my dear Savior, than the branches can do without the vine! Keep me, therefore, always in Yourself, that I may be effectually convinced of my insufficiency, and with humble gratitude may acknowledge my boundless obligations to Your preserving and strengthening grace.

May I never be left in the least thing to my own strength — but be directed, assisted, and blessed by You in all my doings. As far as I confide in myself, I am distrustful of You and consequently weak. On the other hand, the more I distrust myself, the more I confide in You and shall be strengthened and blessed. My soul, never lose sight of this for one moment — you can do nothing without Jesus.

There must be union to Him, faith in Him, and communications from Him, or there will be no good works, no fruits of righteousness. Just in proportion as you are living in close and intimate fellowship with Jesus, will you be able to perform duty, resist Satan, overcome the world, and bring glory to the Savior’s name. Cleave, cleave, then, to Jesus, with full purpose of heart; never leave Him for one moment.
