Consent to Biblical Soul Care

Our Goal in providing biblical soul care is to help you meet the challenges of life in ways that please and honor Jesus and allow you to fully enjoy His love for you and His plans for your life.

Biblical Basis- We believe that the Bible provides guidance and instruction for faith and life (Rom 15:4, 2 Pet1:3,5-7) and we believe Christ desires to be the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls (1 Pet 2:25) and that He is our true hope (Heb 6:19). Therefore, our soul care efforts are based solely on scriptural principles rather than those of secular psychology or psychiatry.

Not Professional Advice- As soul care providers, we do not claim to give the same kind of professional advice and services that could be purchased from a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.  Our discipleship is meant to provide you with biblical basis for making your own decisions based on principles revealed in Scripture. Our job is to care for you, point you to the Wonderful Counselor, and help you find answers to your problems from His Word. If you need or desire professional counsel from a psychologist or psychiatrist you should seek such. We are happy to cooperate with such counselors and help you consider their counsel in light of relevant biblical principles.  By signing this “Consent to Biblical Soul Care” you agree to hold Calvary Baptist Church, the 15:20 Coalition, and Reasons for Hope* Jesus harmless in any and all matters associated with the discipleship you receive from your soul care provider.

Confidentiality- Confidentiality is an important aspect of the soul care process, and we will carefully guard the information you entrust to us. We encourage you to inform your pastor about the plan for your discipleship through biblical soul care so they can be supportive and pray for you specifically. There are four situations when it may be necessary to share certain information about your involvement with biblical soul care: (1) When your soul care provider is uncertain of how to address a particular problem and needs to seek advice from another Biblical Soul Care provider or pastor; (2) when there is a clear indication that someone may be harmed unless others intervene; or (3) when a person persistently refuses to renounce a particular sin and it becomes necessary to inform the leadership in your church to encourage repentance and reconciliation (see Proverbs 15:22; 24:11; Matthew 18:15-20). Please be assured that our soul care providers prefer not to disclose personal information to others, and we will make every effort to help you find ways to resolve a problem as privately as possible.

Resolution of Conflicts- On rare occasions a conflict may arise.  By signing this “Consent to Biblical Soul Care” you agree that all such conflicts will be resolved in a biblical manner, in accordance with Matthew 18:15-20 and the authority of scripture and your local church.

Donations- We offer biblical soul care on a donation basis. Your gifts  support two ministries with missions to equip, empower, and encourage Christians to know, live, and share what they believe. Reasons for Hope* Jesus is an apologetics ministry (knowing faith) and biblical soul care ministry (living faith). The 15:20 Coalition is a church planting ministry (sharing faith) in countries where people have not heard the gospel. The suggested donation is $60 for a two-hour session. The donation can be made by check or online at www.1520coalition.com.  If this is something you cannot afford we can discuss other options.

Having clarified the principles and policies of the Biblical Soul Care ministry, we welcome the opportunity to minister to you in the name of Jesus Christ and to be used by Him as He helps you to grow in spiritual maturity and prepares you for usefulness in His body. If you have any questions, please contact Shari Abbott (513.978.7931). If these guidelines are acceptable to you, please submit this form.
